Ecomsync vs Shopify's bulk editor and CSV import
Checked 22 October 2026 against each tool's own documentation
The short answer
Side by side
| Compared on | Ecomsync | Shopify's bulk editor and CSV import |
|---|---|---|
| What you provide | One request in plain language. | Every new value, typed into the grid or the spreadsheet. |
| Writing help | Titles, descriptions, SEO fields and alt text, in your style and your store's languages. | None. Sidekick can draft one description at a time in the product page. |
| Before a change is saved | Every change listed field by field, current value beside new, before anything is written. Edit or deselect any of them. | The grid you edited, or the file you import. |
| Mistakes | Nothing is written until approved. Protected products are skipped and price limits hold. | In an overwrite import a blank cell blanks the field, and variant columns without their option columns can delete options. |
| Undo | One click reverses every field a run wrote: for 3, 7 or 14 days by plan. The history stays for 90 days. | None. Re-import an export taken before the change, if you kept one. |
| Price | From $14 a month. Three days free. | Included with Shopify. |
When Shopify's bulk editor and CSV import is the better choice
- The change is a handful of products you can type in a grid.
- The new values already exist in a spreadsheet, from a supplier or a system.
- A one-off migration where you will check the file line by line anyway.
When Ecomsync is the better choice
- The new values need writing: titles, descriptions, SEO fields, alt text, translations.
- You want to see every change against what is there now before it lands.
- You want a way back that does not depend on an export you remembered to take.
Questions
Which columns does a Shopify product CSV use now?
Shopify's current template names them URL handle, Title, SEO title, SEO description, Image alt text, Product image URL and Compare-at price, among others. An update import needs the URL handle and Title columns, and the option to overwrite products with matching handles.
Can I undo a CSV import in Shopify?
No. The way back is to import an export you took before the change. Ecomsync records every field before it writes, so a run can be reversed without one.
