Ecomsync vs Shopify Sidekick for catalogue work
Should I use Shopify Sidekick or Ecomsync to manage my product catalogue?
Checked 22 October 2026 against each tool's own documentation
The short answer
Use Sidekick for help inside the admin: questions about your store, a product description drafted while you edit it, a change you want made and saved there and then. Use Ecomsync when the job is a whole catalogue or collection: it stages every change across hundreds of products as one list with the current and new value of each field, enforces your price limits and protected products in code, and reverses a whole run in one click for up to 14 days. Many merchants use both.
Side by side
| Compared on | Ecomsync | Shopify Sidekick |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | An AI agent for Shopify catalogue work, outside the admin, connected through a custom app. | The assistant built into the Shopify admin, on every admin page, on desktop and mobile. |
| Best at | One request applied across a whole catalogue, collection or vendor. | Help where you are working: questions, drafts and edits inside the admin. |
| Before a change is saved | Every change listed field by field, current value beside new, before anything is written. Edit or deselect any of them. | Presents changes for your review before applying them. Fields it fills apply when you save. |
| Undo | One click reverses every field a run wrote: for 3, 7 or 14 days by plan. The history stays for 90 days. | Ask it to undo the last change in the same chat. Shopify documents no version history or run rollback. |
| Guardrails | Protected products, a cap on how far a price may move and a floor, enforced by code, not by the prompt. | Your staff permissions and your review. |
| Catalogue health | A daily score out of 100, with every gap named product by product. | Answers questions about your store when you ask. |
| What it can reach | Catalogue only: products, variants, collections, images, metafields, prices, stock and translations. | Your whole admin, including orders, customers and discounts. |
| Price | From $14 a month. Three days free. | Built into the Shopify admin. |
When Shopify Sidekick is the better choice
- You want an answer about your store, or a hand with the product in front of you.
- The change is small and you want it saved there and then.
- The job touches orders, customers or discounts.
When Ecomsync is the better choice
- The job covers dozens or hundreds of products and you want to see every change before it lands.
- You need to reverse a whole run days later, not only the last edit.
- Price limits and protected products must hold whatever the request says.
- Someone else does the work, a colleague or an agency, and you approve it.
Questions
Is Sidekick the same as Shopify Magic?
Shopify now documents product description writing under Sidekick: the Generate text button in a product's description field drafts one product at a time, and the text applies when you save.
Can I use Ecomsync and Sidekick on the same store?
Yes. They do not conflict. Ecomsync reads the current value of every field before it stages a change, so edits made in Sidekick are picked up.
