Ecomsync vs Shopify SEO apps for meta tags and alt text
Do I need an SEO app or an AI agent to fix meta titles and alt text on Shopify?
Checked 22 October 2026 against each tool's own documentation
The short answer
SEO apps such as Plug in SEO, StoreSEO, Smart SEO and SearchPie cover more of SEO than Ecomsync does: site audits, structured data, sitemaps and image optimisation, and they fill meta tags and alt text with templates or AI. Ecomsync covers the product fields: SEO titles, meta descriptions, alt text and titles, each written for its own product, shown beside the current value before anything is saved, and reversible in one click. Plenty of stores run both.
Side by side
| Compared on | Ecomsync | Shopify SEO apps |
|---|---|---|
| Scope | Product catalogue fields, in every language the store publishes. | Site-wide SEO: audits, meta tags, alt text, structured data, image optimisation, varying by app. |
| How meta tags are written | Each one written for its product from its data, within the lengths search results show. | Templates that fill in product fields, and AI in several apps. |
| Before a change is saved | Every change listed field by field, current value beside new, before anything is written. Edit or deselect any of them. | Varies. StoreSEO's listing previews meta titles and descriptions before publishing. |
| Undo | One click reverses every field a run wrote: for 3, 7 or 14 days by plan. The history stays for 90 days. | Not mentioned for meta edits in the listings we checked. |
| Health score | SEO completeness is one of five parts of a daily catalogue score. | Most offer an SEO score or audit. |

- SEO is one part of the catalogue work you want done.
