How to add products to a collection in bulk on Shopify
Updated 22 October 2026 · 3 minute read
The short answer
Hand-picked or by conditions: check first
A collection can hold products you pick by hand, products that match conditions such as a tag, a product type, a vendor or a price, or both. Since July 2026 Shopify lets one collection combine conditions, hand-picked products and exclusions.
An older automated collection, made before that change, takes only the products its conditions match. To add a product to one, change the product so it matches, or edit the conditions.
Picking products by hand
- Go to Products. Filter or search to narrow the list.
- Tick the products you want to add.
- Open the bulk actions menu and choose Add to collection.
- Pick the collection and save.
A collection driven by conditions
- Open the collection and read its conditions, for example Product tag is equal to winter.
- Go to Products and tick the products that belong.
- Open the bulk actions menu and choose Add tags. Add the tag from the condition.
- Shopify adds the tagged products to the collection on its own.
With Ecomsync
- Ask in plain words: Put every sweater and cardigan in the Winter collection.
- Ecomsync reads your catalogue, finds the products that fit, and leaves out the ones already there.
- Review each product with its photo: Not in Winter on one side, In Winter on the other. Protected products are flagged and skipped.
- Approve, and undo the run in one click if the season changes its mind.
Questions
Can a product be in more than one collection?
Yes. A product can belong to any number of collections.
How do I remove many products from a collection?
Tick the products in the Products list and choose Remove from collection. For a product a collection's conditions brought in, remove the tag or change the field the conditions match.
