Guide
How to translate Shopify product titles and descriptions
Updated 22 October 2026 · 4 minute read
The short answer
Add the language in Settings, then Languages, and publish it. Translate products with Shopify's free Translate & Adapt app, by hand or with its automatic translation, which is free for up to two languages. For many products, export the translations CSV from Settings, then Languages, fill the Translated content column and import it. Ecomsync translates titles, descriptions, SEO fields and handles into the languages your store publishes and shows each translation beside the current one before it is saved.
With Translate & Adapt
- Add and publish the language in Settings, then Languages.
- Install Translate & Adapt, Shopify's own app, from the Shopify App Store.
- Open a product in the app and translate its fields by hand, or use automatic translation.
- Review the result on the storefront in that language.
Automatic translation is free for up to two languages. Manual translations are unlimited.
Many products, with the translations CSV
- Go to Settings, then Languages, and export. Shopify emails you the file.
- Each row is one field in one language: Type, Identification, Field, Locale, Market, Status, Default content and Translated content.
- Fill Translated content. Leave the other columns as they are.
- Import from the same page. Tick Overwrite any existing translations only if you mean to replace them.
With Ecomsync
- Ask for the fields and the languages.
- Ecomsync checks which languages your store publishes and refuses any it does not.
- Each translation is staged beside the current one, or its absence. Brand terms in your style profile are never translated.
- Approve, and the translations are stored in Shopify, where Translate & Adapt and your storefront show them.
Questions
Is Shopify's translation app free?
Translate & Adapt is free. Its automatic translation covers up to two languages for free, and you can add manual translations for as many as you like.
Should URL handles be translated?
Translated handles give each language its own readable address. Translate them early, before the pages earn links in that language.
