Guide
How to write product descriptions for hundreds of Shopify products
Updated 22 October 2026 · 4 minute read
The short answer
For one product, open it in the Shopify admin and use the Generate text button in the description field, which Sidekick now provides: the draft goes in the field and applies when you save. For hundreds, write them in the Description column of a product CSV and import it, or ask Ecomsync to write a description for every product that needs one, grounded in each product's own data and your store's style, and review the list before anything is saved.
One product, with Sidekick
- Open the product in your Shopify admin.
- Select the Generate text button in the description toolbar.
- Review the draft it writes into the field.
- Edit it and save.
Many products, with a CSV
- Export the products and keep an untouched copy.
- Write each description in the Description column.
- Import with the option to overwrite products with matching handles.
Writing hundreds of descriptions in a spreadsheet is slow, and there is no undo for the import. Keep the copy.
What a description needs
- What the product is, and who it is for, in the first sentence.
- The facts shoppers compare on: material, size, capacity, care.
- Only facts you can stand behind. A wrong material is a return waiting to happen.
- Your store's voice, the same on every product.
- A different description for every product, even close variants.
Questions
Will AI-written product descriptions hurt my SEO?
Search engines judge whether content is helpful, not who wrote it. Descriptions that are specific, accurate and different for each product help. Two hundred near-copies of one template do not.
How does Ecomsync avoid made-up details?
It writes from the product's own data and pages it reads, and marks anything it could not confirm in the review list so you check it before approving.
